Mama Foundation for the Arts

The Mama Foundation for the Arts, a not-for-profit service organization, was founded in 1998 by Vy Higginsen to help rebuild Harlem as an artistic and cultural centerpiece of the world. The Mama Foundation believes in the old adage “Nothing Beats An Understanding” and intends to promote multi-cultural understanding through the arts. The Mama Foundation produces original and revival theater and musical productions, employing local talent from the Harlem community and outer New York boroughs. The foundation identifies, trains, and employs the next generation of singers, actors, composers, musicians, writers, directors, administrators, and technicians. The Mama Foundation views Harlem as an arts and culture destination and as a magnetic economic engine for Harlem’s residents, youth and institutions.
